Who is Sonja

Riotrules is an ever-evolving adventure lifestyle project created by Sonja Pützer. Started as a teenage angst project in 2001, it has grown up together with Sonja, who now strives to deliver inspiring and empowering content for all who love to travel and explore.

It’s promoting seeing the world, experiencing new cultures and living life well. I take all photos myself, unless otherwise indicated. I plan all trips by myself as well. If you have any questions, please drop me an email or find me on Instagram.

About Sonja

Born and raised in Münster, Germany, I am a child of the 80s, born to parents who instilled a sense of adventure at an early age. The list of places I have called home has grown quite long and until the end of 2016 was Shanghai, China for six years. Then it was time for a change,  fresh air, and a slower life and now I love living in Hawaii.

Travel

Born with a sense of adventure, exploring and traveling have always been important to me. From family holidays and youth group trips in my childhood to stable holidays in my teenage years, I have always had the yearn to go places. By the time I reached age 16 I was all set to spend a high school year abroad in the US living with a host family. As I started university I made sure to complete all internships with a bit of spare time to travel before the next semester would start. Now in my professional life, I am well known for planning out the year already in January to ensure I get all my adventures lined up and maximize travel time.

“Travel is like love, mostly because it’s a heightened state of awareness, in which we are mindful, receptive, undimmed by familiarity and ready to be transformed. That is why the best trips, like the best love affairs, never really end.” — Pico Iyer

Sports

Staying fit and healthy are key to feeling strong and happy. My main sports are Cycling, Yoga and Golf. I go for the occasional run, work out before work where I prefer a HIIT and on holidays I make sure it includes any of these: Diving (advanced open water closing in on 100 dives, mostly in South East Asia), Cycling (Touring preferred, eg Australia, New Zealand, France) or Hiking (the Himalayas are close and the 7 summits are calling).
