Framing Pictures and Buying Hooks

On my recent trip to Paris I bought a few prints that I liked. Upon my return to Shanghai, I went looking for a place to get them framed.

I found a really good place on Wulumuqi Lu, near Anfu Lu. It’s a little shop on the left handside as you head up Wulumuqi Lu. The owner doesn’t speak any English, but it’s easy enough with a little Mandarin and an idea of what you want to get. He has a variety of different qualities to pick from and after choosing your desired frame size, colour, finish, material and payment, it’ll take a good 5 days and you can come back to pick up your artwork.
I got mine last week, but didn’t get around to putting them up until Saturday.

I am trying to avoid having too many nails in the wall as it’s generally not liked by the landlords. Mine is pretty flexible, however, after nailing one print to the wall, I actually came across a much nicer solution.

I found amazing hooks on Taobao (among other successes) – they keep most of my pictures in place.

The hardest part to find was actually fishing string. I ended up getting that at a local insect market in the fish section. After haggling a bit I got them for roughly 10RMB, which is still too much, I assume. I’m not a master haggler.
