Yiyun Li – A Thousand Years Of Good Prayers

I just finished reading Yiyun Lin’s ‘A Thousand Years of Good Prayers’ over breakfast this morning.

It is a collection of short stories that I started reading 2 weeks ago – due to insane amounts of work I haven’t been reading as much as I would have liked to, but today’s quiet morning gave me the chance to catch up.

It is a view into modern China, from different perspectives, inside and outside of China, from Beijing, to Mongolia to Chicago. It illustrates a society that is torn between cultural believes and modern politics. Through the individual stories’ characters it truely captures what China is today.

2 thumbs up for a unique read.
