From Lijiang we set out to conquer the Tiger Leaping Gorge. It was a rather spontaneous “maybe” on the travel itinerary, but upon arrival in Lijiang it turned out to be super easy to organize.

Our hostel arranged a bus transfer to Qitao and equipped with small overnight backpacks, ample water and snack supplies and high motivation we set out to hike the Gorge.

We left our bigger bags in Lijiang and only brought a few layers of clothing (hello, onion!) as it was quite chilly out of the sun.

We spent the night at the Halfway House and the grand finale of day 2 was reaching the bottom of the gorge and doing the tiger leap. But see for yourself.

The temptation of hiring a horse to overcome the “28 bends” – but I didn’t cave in.

Sunset….

..and Sunrise.

On day 2 it took until lunchtime for the sun to find its way in to the gorge. It was freezing with icy winds all morning.
